The Story behind the "GOUT" & Release Philosophy
What is the GOUT (George's Original Unaltered Trilogy)? In 2006, Lucasfilm released a limited edition DVD of the trilogy. Hidden as a "bonus" on the second disc was the Holy Grail for fans: the original 1977 theatrical cut, without any digital modifications. To this day, this remains the last official release of the original version (no CGI Jabba, no digital dewbacks, and most importantly... Han shoots first).
This master was sourced from the 1993 "Definitive Collection" LaserDiscs. It is imperfect, grainy, and raw, but it stands as the only official witness to what audiences saw in theaters nearly 50 years ago.
Why this "Preservation" Release? Unlike restored fan projects (like Despecialized or 4K77) that aim to clean up the image, my goal here is to offer a raw archival experience. I used x265 (10bit) with specific settings designed to preserve all the natural grain and film texture of this DVD master. No smoothing, no "beauty" filters. This is the image exactly as it is, authentic and unaltered.
Audio Choice: Back to Basics (Stereo 2.0) To remain consistent with this purist vision, I deliberately excluded modern 5.1 or Atmos remixes that often alter the original sound balance.
English Track: The original Stereo mix (Dolby Surround). It is punchy, sometimes rough, but incredibly dynamic—the true sound of 1977.
French Track: The original vintage French Dub (VF). Experience the exact voices and mix from your childhood (VHS/LaserDisc), without the changes found in later Blu-ray editions.
This is a time capsule. Enjoy the trip back to 1977.

L'Histoire de la version "GOUT" & Philosophie de cette Release
Qu'est-ce que la GOUT (George's Original Unaltered Trilogy) ? En 2006, Lucasfilm a sorti une édition DVD limitée de la trilogie. En "bonus" caché sur le second disque, se trouvait le Saint Graal des fans : le montage cinéma original de 1977, sans aucune modification numérique. C'est à ce jour la dernière sortie officielle de la version originale (sans le Jabba en CGI, sans les dewbacks numériques, et surtout... Han tire le premier).
Ce master provenait des LaserDiscs "Definitive Collection" de 1993. Il est imparfait, granuleux, et brut, mais c'est le seul témoin officiel de ce que les spectateurs ont vu en salle il y a près de 50 ans.
Pourquoi cette release "Preservation" ? Contrairement aux versions restaurées (Despecialized, 4K77) qui cherchent à nettoyer l'image, mon but ici est de vous proposer une expérience d'archive brute. J'ai utilisé l'encodeur x265 (10bit) avec des réglages spécifiques pour préserver tout le grain et la texture argentique de ce master DVD. Pas de lissage, pas de filtre "beauté". C'est l'image dans son jus, authentique.
Le choix du Son : Retour à l'Origine (Stéréo 2.0) Pour rester cohérent avec cette vision puriste, j'ai volontairement écarté les remixages 5.1 ou Atmos modernes qui dénaturent souvent l'équilibre sonore original.
Piste Anglaise : Le mixage Stéréo d'origine (Dolby Surround). C'est le son percutant, parfois rugueux, mais incroyablement dynamique de 1977.
Piste Française : La VF d'époque en Stéréo. Retrouvez les voix et le mixage exacts de votre enfance (VHS/LaserDisc), sans les retouches des éditions Blu-ray.
Ceci est une capsule temporelle. Bon voyage en 1977.

Theatrical Cut: This is the original 1977 version. NO CGI updates, NO "Special Edition" changes. Han shoots first.
Encoding: The source was detelecined to restore the original 23.976fps progressive cinema speed. Black bars were cropped to offer a clean widescreen file. Encoded in HEVC 10-bit x265 with specific settings (`no-sao`, `psy-rd=2.0`) to preserve the vintage grain structure of the LaserDisc source.
Audio:
